Google Redirects Chinese Traffic to Hong Kong, No Censorship

Google has announced that they will be redirecting all the Google.cn traffic to its Hong Kong servers and will provide uncensored results to all the Chinese users.

Everyone accessing Google.cn will be redirected to Google.hk. Google also mentioned that the services might be slow because of the traffic that is being sent to Hong Kong servers.

Google Official mentioned,

So earlier today we stopped censoring our search services—Google Search, Google News, and Google Images—on Google.cn. Users visiting Google.cn are now being redirected to Google.com.hk, where we are offering uncensored search in simplified Chinese, specifically designed for users in mainland China and delivered via our servers in Hong Kong.

The question in the minds of most people would be whether this is legal or not. Well, Google Cheif Development and Legal Office, David Dummonds, said that this is entirely legal and hope that Chinese government will respect the decision taken by Google. Although, they can block this service anytime they want.

He said,

We very much hope that the Chinese government respects our decision, though we are well aware that it could at any time block access to our services. We will therefore be carefully monitoring access issues, and have created this new web page, which we will update regularly each day, so that everyone can see which Google services are available in China.
