Mark Dayton wins Democratic nomination for governor in Minnesota, US
Mark Dayton narrowly won Minnesota's Democratic primary for governor, barely escaping political death and taking a large step toward a remarkable political comeback.
But although the Associated Press called the race for Dayton early Wednesday, State House Speaker Margaret Anderson Kelliher -- who held a strong lead in early returns for most of the night -- has refused to concede. Dayton’s margin, which stands at close to 1,500 votes of about 413,000 counted, could still trigger an automatic recount under state election laws.
